by Laura RupertIt's the Friday before Christmas and every store is crowded, parents are still in search of item's on their children's Christmas lists, and some others are just starting to think about shopping. However, there are only two more shopping days left so if you have gifts left to buy it's a good idea to get out and try to buy them before it is too late. Some online gifts may still be purchased today for overnight shipping, but even that is getting pretty late. Keep in mind that finding the perfect gift for your loved ones to open on Christmas Day is important, but it shouldn't come above everything else.
Christmas is about family, love, sharing, being thankful, and for the majority of Americans the birth of Jesus. So while it is easy to get swept away in the commercialism of Christmas and think that only the most expensive gift will do maybe you should step back for a minute and think about what Christmas is all about.
Many individuals take out personal loans to pay for Christmas gifts, rack up credit card debt, and forego paying important bills just to give that perfect Christmas gift. However, Christmas should not be about stressing yourself out financially so you can give the best gifts. Instead, it is about sharing time with those you love, enjoying friends and fellowship, and celebrating Jesus' birthday.
During this last weekend of shopping when you can't find a parking space and the gift you are looking for has been sold out try and keep the holiday spirit in mind. It is wonderful to buy gifts and share them, but not if it makes you dread the Christmas season and spend more money than you have.
Keep this in mind during these last few days before Christmas. Also, know that all of us here at Long Island Exchange wish you a very merry Christmas and the happiest of New Years.
