by Laura RupertThe Dowling Psychology Club Psi Chi chapter in association with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is hosting the 6th annual Thanksgiving food drive for the needy on Long Island. It began on October 24th and will continue through November 21st.So there is still plenty of time to make your donation!
There are many needy families on Long Island who will benefit from this food drive. This year's goal is to collect at least 2000 pounds of non-perishable foods to help needy families enjoy the holiday season. The last two years resulted in the food drive collecting approximately 1700 pounds of non-perishable foods so this year's goal is to collect a full ton of food! The past years' donations allowed the club to assist 90-100 families during the holiday season so an extra 300 pounds worth of food will allow even more families to enjoy the holidays.
Bins will be placed on campus for collection of non-perishable foods. If you don't want to carry a lot of cans to the collection bin you may also donate a grocery store gift card that will be used to purchase these types of food stuffs.
The Dowling college community will be updated via newsletters from the Psychology club as to the progress of the food drive. The Club asks everyone to be as generous as possible with their donations because it really is for a good cause.
If you would like to donate to the cause, mail a grocery store giftcard, or simply have questions then contact Dr. Robert Youth at youthr---AT---dowling.edu. Help everyone on Long Island have the best holiday season ever by donating some canned goods to the Dowling's 6th Annual Food Drive. You will feel good about yourself for helping others and the needy will benefit from your generosity.
