by Laura RupertKids on Long Island love to trick or treat in fact kids everywhere love to trick or treat. However, parents should take some things into account before letting their children trick or treat. The following tips might keep your child safe on Halloween night. Keep in mind that while there are not a lot of bad people out there planning on kidnapping kids or poisoning them, there might be one, and that is enough reason to take some precaution.
Tip #1 Check the CandyYou should only allow your child to trick or treat in the Long Island neighborhoods you are familiar with or perhaps even in your own neighborhood. Only visit houses where you know the individuals and don't just allow your kid to go out trick or treating on their own. When you are cautious you will more than likely keep your child from encountering poisoned candy or dangerous people. When you allow your child to trick or treat alone you are risking a lot. Once your child returns home with his bag of candy go through each piece and throw out anything that looks suspicious.
Tip #2 Reflective Strips
There is a lot of traffic on Halloween night. Kids trick or treating, adults going to Halloween parties, and more. So, make sure you keep your child visible to traffic no matter what kind of costume he has. You can sew or tape reflective strips on the costume and his candy bag and give your child glow in the dark necklaces and the like to increase his visibility. Driving your child from home to home is always a good idea or else walking with him while he trick or treats.
Tip #3 Begin Early
You should begin trick or treating with your children on Long Island early. With the time change it is getting darker earlier and trick or treating in a bit of twilight is best. So, head out around 5:30 pm with the goal of returning by 8 pm. Then your child will have enough time to go through his loot and get ready for bed.
Halloween on Long Island is a lot of fun. You just need to be careful and these tips will help you keep your child safe on Halloween night.
